I love Cozumel. If you can be there on a Sunday evening go to the main square in San Miguel, wear something suitable (not the baggy shorts tourista uniform) and enjoy the wonderful local culture. Cozumel is by far the safest Mexican destination. Just don’t expect great beaches. It is mostly for reef diving. If you have time and are not prone to sea sickness take the ferry to Playa del Carmen it’s beautiful and has really good shopping.
Safest way is through a travel agent who has been there or at least knows the area very well; we also know where to get the best deals and stay within your budget, while getting you exactly what you envision.

I booked my trip to Cozumel for this summer through premieretravelsite.com. The travel agent I worked with got me a very good deal on airfare and hotel. I contacted the travel agent so he was able to find me cheaper deals that were not listed on the site. He was able to get me a hotel of my choice with an oceanview and airfare for two people for 12 days stay for $1550. Hope the website helps you.
